I never knew where this expression came from – NOW I do!  This year was the 100th Anniversary of the Earl Anderson Memorial Rodeo in Grover, Colorado.  The local rodeo for where I lived for 37 years and a highlight of the summer.  Everyone is working here, including the clown.  I have lots of photographs of the Grover Rodeo including this anniversary event – if anyone is interested in seeing more, please send me a message!
