This is a detail from an incredible piece of blown glasswork by Dale Chihuly.  It is in the collection of the Spencer Museum of Art on the University of Kansas campus at Lawrence.  Having become familiar with Chihuly’s work at the botanic gardens in Denver – and subsequently investigated his website and his video – a piece of this size and this intricacy is truly astonishing.  And it was a lovely surprise to find it there in Kansas.  This is why we go to museums!
