The koto is a Japanese musical instrument with 13 strings stretched over an oblong box.  It is a very beautiful and distinctive sound.  This particular instrument was located at the Shibui showroom – a gallery of Japanese antiques and artifacts.  The shop has always been kind enough to permit me to photograph their treasures and I hope that I have sent them some business through photographs on my cards and website – they are located in Brooklyn, New York and it is worth a visit!  Call ahead!
