Paint Mines

A lesser known State Park in Colorado.  A good sized gaping hole in the middle of the grasslands into which you can descend and wander in the midst of these colorful rocks and mysterious shapes.  This tree is perhaps the ONLY tree down in the maze.  A terrain most unexpected on the generally flat eastern plains.  I have photographed many solitary trees which have grown up in unexpected locations where no other trees exist.  But I think this one takes the prize for growing in an inhospitable place unique environment.  But then…it must know something I don’t know!  If trees do indeed communicate with each other below the surface of the earth…this one may be lonely for lack of others to talk to.
