Very common to the Pawnee National Grasslands and other prairie locations.  Prickly and sticky!  Growing here with bee balm.  It is tough and drought resistant.  And noxious.  Often seen along roadways because it loves to grow in disturbed land.  My favorite image of this blossom can be seen as another card offering on my website in the flowers category – called “Desert Pearl”.
