This swan resided on the campus of Doane College in Crete, Nebraska.  Lovely park-like setting.  My friend Mai and I admired the beauty of the birds and I was lucky to catch this one turning toward me and fluffing his feathers.    But I missed the cues.  He was turning me an evil eye.  And two minutes after I took this photograph, he rushed up on the shoreline, attacked and bit my leg!  In my defense, I was nowhere near as close to him as it appears in this picture!  I would have said I had kept a respectful distance.  But I sure learned to deepen my respect for a swan’s space.
